2. Why did SE Hinton write The Outsiders?
SE Hinton began writing her first novel, The Outsiders, in 1965. The book was inspired by two rival gangs at her school at the time. She wanted to show sympathy toward the Greasers. The Socs were a very bad and mean gang that she did not like. She also wanted to show the realities of her school and being a teenager and that everything wasn’t just school, boys, and girls. Later, her book was published by the Viking Press, by the time she was 17. She had still had these feelings to write about and she had made many corrections to her book over time. 3. SE Hinton has written many books.  How does she go about writing them?  Explain her style.
Hinton goes about writing her books by what she sees in her life. She writes about what it is like to be behind all of this while it is going on. Her style is to not just show what everyone assumes is happening, but to show the good parts about the bad people she writes about. This kind of writing is very unique considering the fact that a lot of people want to read what they assume due to self gratification. This writing style stands out and Hinton knows that. She writes with this kind of style, also, because whenever she was growing, she ran out of good things to read about. She started writing with this style to be new and she stuck with it.
