Blog 8 To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee

Describe the effect the literature has on its audience.  Make sure to use specific examples to support your answer.  Note:  highlight your statement, proper nouns or numbers, and conclusion.
My book, To Kill a Mocking Bird, has effected me. I have found myself discussing the book and the main character, also the narrator, Scout, with my sister. I am enjoying this book, although i am only on page 27. The ways she describes things are in different ways that I have never seen before. I enjoy this type of writing. This type of writing has affected me on the way I view different books writing now. I have been affected by the book, To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Identify a theme in your IRB.  Describe events in your book that support this theme.  (Highlight statement, proper nouns or numbers, and conclusion.) 6  lines
I sense a theme in my book the "Shawshank Redemption." The theme is desperation. Andy Dufresne is desperate to get out of prison so bad that he is willing to dig a hole threw the wall and crawl threw dirty pipes. The pipes were about 6 inches wide and 6 inches tall so he had to crawl. I would have to say thats being very despaerate.

                                       My Author, Stephen King

My author's name connects part of him to his stories. He was born in Maine and still lives there. King also graduated at the University of Maine in Orono. In the book "Shawshank Redemption", the story takes place in Maine. Im connecting him being attached to Maine, not in a bad way, but in a sympathetic way, and writing a story that takes place in Maine. I am strongly sure that this is not the only one he wrote that takes place in Maine. Stephen King connects his home state to the stories he writes about, in my eyes.

How does the setting affect the meaning of the story?
The setting affects the meaning of the story "Shawshank Redemption." The story takes place in Shawshank Prison. As i said in previous blogs, the setting completely affects my story. The plot of my story is Andy Dufresne's great escape and also is life in prison. If you think about it, Andy Dufresne would have to be doing something else if he was not in prison. There is at least one other thing he could be doing right now and that is continuing his life as a banker, not in prison. This is why my setting affects the story "Shawshank Redemption."

Describe the authors tone in your IRB and how it affects the story.
My author, Stephen King, has a tone in my story- "Shawshank Redemption." His tone is very calm for the most part, but every once in awhile gets excited. The tone of the story is affective for at least two different reasons, the plot and setting. If the tone was happiness and excitement, than the story would be completely different. The authors tone is appropriate for the story. Over all, my author does very well with the tone used for this story.

In the book I am currently reading- "Shawshank Redemption"- the setting affects the mood of the characters and the story. The old, cold, and lonely prison setting makes at least 2 men act different. One of those men is the main character and he is completely changed by the setting. The setting is not just important to the characters but also the story. In this book, the setting makes the story. After all is over, the setting still changes the mood of my story.

My character, Andy Dufresne, has a motivation in the book I am reading. Andy's motivation in the story is bad prison life. The conditions in Shwshank are causing him to want to break out of prison. Some of the conditions in prison are fighting, laboring jobs, and several other reasons. Andy's conditions, though are being made better for him when he gets a job as the librarian. While in the library he is many prisoners financial advisors. These are some motivations that might influence or motivate Andy to escape.

Blog1 Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King

9/15/10
There is actually a great conflcit in the book i am reading, which is called- "The Shawshank Redemption". This story takes place in the 1949. Right now, in the story, Andy Dufresne is being "Bullied, beat- up and harmed". The conflict is solved, though. The tyrant, Bogs Diamond, one day, is found in his cell beatan- up. After that day, he never messed with anyone again.
